Curriculum

Preschool and junior classes (grades 1 to 4), run Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Children in preschool are prepared for grade 1 through an introduction to the Russian alphabet, short poems, and basic elements of Russian culture. The children participate in various creative activities and cultural events including the annual school concert.

Students in junior classes learn to read and write using a variety of learning media, including drawing, painting, and craft.  At the end of these classes, children should be able to read and comprehend Russian books independently, understand elements of Russian grammar, calligraphy, and express themselves both in writing and speaking. Teachers pay attention to class discipline and encourage development of social skills. We plan to extend this program to include a mathematics class to introduce unique Russian methods of teaching and learning arithmetic.

Senior classes (grades 5 to 10) are held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students learn Russian grammar at an intermediate level, Russian literature, and Russian history.

The school runs Grade 11-12 class on Monday evenings. The main purpose of this class is preparation of students for external high school examination in Russian language.

After formal language classes on Saturdays the school offers optional afternoon classes in fine art and choirs.  Adults are very welcome to participate in these optional activities.
